Gatorz Karting Cup announces makeup date with September Pan-Am at Calspeed
August 16, 2010 (Orange, Calif.) – Making up its previously postponed June date at the Grange Motor Circuit, the Gatorz Karting Cup would like to announce that round five of the 2010 Gatorz Karting Cup will be held Saturday, October 2, at the Calspeed Karting Center. It will be held in conjunction with the Fontana round of the Rotax Pan-Am. On that Saturday, all Gatorz Karting Cup drivers will earn points for the series championship.
Round 4 of the Gatorz Karting Cup will be held August 28-29 in a joint race with the Los Angeles Kart Club, while round 6 and the series finale will be held October 9-10 at the Streets of Lancaster Grand Prix.
The decision to partner with the Pan-Am was based on a variety of circumstances, including minimizing travel for teams located far from Southern California who also plan on competing at the Streets of Lancaster Grand Prix, which will be the series finale for the Gatorz Karting Cup. With the added hurdle of a crowded race schedule in September and October, and Pan-Am’s willingness to accommodate the Gatorz Karting Cup drivers, the decision was made to make Saturday a Gatorz points race.
“We looked at several different scenarios for making up our June round, but in the end this is the best solution for us and for the drivers, teams, and shops that support our series,” said Andy Seesemann, owner of the Gatorz Karting Cup. “Racing on back-to-back weekends will minimize the travel for our teams and shops that are based out of town that will be competing in Lancaster.”
“We appreciate that Joe Ramos willing to work with us and include us in his program, and we hope that our Gatorz Karting Cup drivers will race the Sunday round of Pan-Am as well. And now that our schedule is set for the rest of the season, we are looking forward to three exciting rounds of Rotax racing.”
Gatorz Karting Cup racers will be competing for free entries, including tires, to the 2011 Gatorz Challenge of the Americas. With three rounds of the six-round championship remaining, the final races at Calspeed and Lancaster will determine the season champions in each class. Drivers will have to compete in five of the six events in order to be eligible for the championship prizes.

Minimax and Micromax Spec Gearing for Streets of Willow
Due to the nature of the high-speed Streets of Willow Springs course, the Gatorz Karting Cup will implement a change in the spec gear for both the Apollo Motorsports MiniMax and Gobirel.com MicroMax classes.
For MiniMax, the minimum gear ratio will be 5.84. 13-76 is 5.845 and 14-82 is 5.86.
For MicroMax, the minimum gear ratio will be 4.92. 14-69 is 4.92 and 15-74 is 4.93.
These ratios will not be spec – as parents can choose to run the karts slower if they wish – but these are the lowest ratios that MiniMax and MicroMax karts can run at Streets of Willow.

Gatorz Challenge of the Americas – Pre Entry Cutoff
With rounds one and two of the 2010 Gatorz Challenge of the Americas now behind us, we are looking ahead to our next event on February 26-28 at the Calspeed Karting Center at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana . Based on the great racing that we saw in Phoenix, we will have more great racing and large fields at Calspeed.
The pre-entry cutoff for rounds 3 and 4 is rapidly approaching. Entrants will have until midnight, February 12 (Friday) to e-mail or fax their entry forms in to save $75 on their entry fee.
Our event at Calspeed also marks the beginning of the Gatorz Karting Cup season. The two races will count for Gatorz Karting Cup season points and punches for the nationwide Rotax Max Challenge. For all the drivers who regularly compete in the Los Angeles Kart Club, this will present a great way to get some laps in and get another early season punch as LAKC is taking February off.
Also, remember that on Thursday the series will hold an optional practice from 1pm-5pm which can be purchased from the series entry form. If you plan on camping throughout the weekend at the track, be sure to also purchase the weekend camping pass on the entry form as well.
Also, our Gatorz Trackside page will be live and running again at Calspeed for all of your friends and family at home to be able to keep an eye on the action.
Safe travels and we will see you next weekend in Fontana!
Information for February Calspeed Event
The first two rounds of the Gatorz Challenge of the Americas had a bleak outlook as trailers and rigs began to arrive in Phoenix on Thursday night, with heavy rain in the area and with Flood Control enforcing mandatory evacuations each evening. It cannot be said enough how hard and dilligently the entire staff at the Phoenix Kart Racing Association, as well as the staff and teams of the Gatorz Challenge of the Americas, worked to create a safe and fun racing experience for our series. Many thanks to our drivers and teams who supported us in Phoenix despite the difficult conditions.
Hopefully the rain will not be a factor at rounds three and four at the Calspeed Karting Center, scheduled for February 24-26. We had several new teams and racers join us in Phoenix and expect to see many more in Fotnana. Some things to keep in mind for our event in Fontana:
- There will be no host hotel for Calspeed. There are lots of area hotels to choose from that are 10 minutes from the track, around the Ontario Mills and the Ontario airport.
- There will be an option Thursday practice offered on the entry form, and it will run 1pm-5pm.
- There is camping available at Calspeed and, this time, we won’t have to move out every night. However, Auto Club Speedway charges a fee for camping to cover the security, so will be a camping fee on the entry form as well.
- The entry form for Calspeed will be up the website by tomorrow morning.
